Large coastal redwood tree found deep in the Columbia River Gorge on the Washington State side. Tree has some green lichen on it and looks as though three trees merged a hundred plus years ago. Light blue sky and white clouds poking through the canopy.

A beautiful moss covered Western red #cedar #tree - still unprotected.
Only a human, with a compromised & unwell soul, would be OK killing an elder tree this magnificent. Some things are just plain wrong.

These ancient old growth trees are essential to fighting accelerated #ClimateChange. #OldGrowth ecosystems in our coastal temperate rainforests supports much biodiverse lifeforms. The naturally moist environment helps to lower impacts of wildfires & other natural disasters that have increased as our governments continue to fund & enable more ecocidal projects.

It’s not easy to tell in these pics, but the big dark wall of dirt is actually the root base of a huge tree that fell in the woods. The roots are wide but very shallow in the soil. I would guesstimate the root “wall” stood about four meters high, and the trunk was so long, I have no idea. At least 50 meters.

As a relative 'noob' in the world of Mastodon, I am still learning about some of the popular hashtags. Most are pretty self-explanatory, though I have to admit, when I saw #ThickTrunkTuesday, my first thought was "please be about *tree* trunks." Relieved to see conifers and not derrieres

Not sure if the aspens in this photo are thick enough to qualify, but I'm always struck by the contrast of aspens in against other trees in mixed forests.

Several aspens stand in a row at the front of a forest. In monochrome, they contrast particularly nicely against the dark branches of other trees and shrubs in the background.
