What would it have been like if you played #stardewvalley in the 1990s? No wiki, no "let's play" videos, no tips, no hints.

But, this vast game obviously full of secrets and much more sophisticated than any games of the time. (The combat, for example, in stardew valley isn't all that, but by 90s standards it would have been described as "action packed" and "intense")

Would the 90s experience of stardew be better or worse?

I like how a "simple" game like Stardew Valley allows you to actually influence your town.

Building the community center, getting rid of big, corporate chains (if you want to), building a new entertainment building, getting public transport running and building a house for someone not able to afford one.

So many things for your local society.

I wish more games gave me that feeling.

Oh, well, it would also be nice in real life, but let's stay realistic.

God, LLMs are so incredibly useless, even for the simplest tasks.

I asked it if #FieldsOfMistria was considered less stressful than #StardewValley.
It confidently answered yes, with additional reasons.
Then I asked it for a source; it says it got fed data up until 2023-October.

Fields of Mistria only came out in late 2024 though. I confront it; it responds that it actually doesn't have any information on FoM.

So the entire first answer was utterly made up just because it sounded plausible.

Are there cozier #StardewValley-like #games that do not stress the player as much?

I always bounce off S. V. in the first few in-game days because the whole game seems to be a terrifying race against time.
Optimize your farm output before winter comes! Don't buy the wrong crop or waste all your progress! Don't talk to people or you'll run out of daytime to care for your farm!

I always felt like Stardew Valley was the opposite of a cozy relaxing game for me. It was pure anxiety.

Stardew Valley but it's the South Bronx 1960s, you run a community garden & Jojamart is Robert Moses with the Cross Bronx Expressway.

The mines? Subway tunnels with a secret passage to North Brother Island.

Build friendship with the local teens by helping them to find a productive use for their love of graffiti-- But, don't offend the sweet church ladies: you'll need *their* help as well to stop the expressway.

Someone asked how to deal with watering lots of wheat in #StardewValley

My response was:

"I will plant large fields of wheat and never water them. I figure at some point there will be enough rainy days and I'll harvest it all when it's ready."

Wheat grows in summer and fall, so between those two seasons you're gonna have rainy days for at least 1 harvest of wheat this way.
