It’s coming up on Shabbat. In the USA & Israel, it’s been an excruciating week for human rights & democracy & the rule of law.
We also have to remember that everything breathes - we need to take a breath too, & restore our souls.

Tomorrow, as Shabbat ends, we enter a time of national remembrance for October 7 and all those we’ve lost — a moment to honor our resilience and unity.
This Shabbat feels especially meaningful, offering stillness to gather strength, draw close to loved ones, and reflect.
Each candle we light symbolizes hope, guiding us forward.
May this Shabbat bring comfort, peace, and a renewed purpose, filling us with the strength to remember, the courage to continue, and the hope to look ahead.

A moment of peace where I let the comforting rains fall down over me, cleansing and rejuvenating me from a long, hot day.

I get today and tomorrow off, thanks to Independence Day! So we're taking Chinese food to an older friend (the one who lost her husband last Yom Kippur), playing cribbage with her (she wants to get better at it), and then all going to shul together afterwards. I'm very psyched.
If you are struggling, I am with you.
If you feel like evil is winning way more than it should, I am with you.
If you feel like you're abandoned by those you were certain would have your back, I am with you.
If these eight plus months are just too much, I am with you.
I am feeling it all too, and it is scary and overwhelmingly bad.
But you are not alone. And we will stand strong facing any evil that comes our way. Together.

but got bored with my old server and saw this one. I've been needing more Jews to talk to (living in the Bible belt is rough).
Currently baking #challah from scratch for the first time, so excited to see how it comes out :)
Growing up in Israel, Shabbat has always been a central part of life, each family & individual with their own unique way of observing this special day. I personally loved the diversity in celebration and the various interpretations of rest and reflection
In my own experience, In Israel - the spectrum ranges widely. Some go to the local synagogue. Others, cherish this day spent with family, where work and daily distractions are set aside to focus on togetherness and sharing
For many, Shabbat is also a time for personal tranquility and recharging. It's a day when the world seems to slow down. Shabbat always feels like a weekly unifying thread, a collective breath everyone takes regardless of how they choose to spend it. It’s one of those aspects of Israeli life that beautifully illustrates the complexity and richness of our culture.
