@jwildeboer@social.wildeboer.netMy EU based alternative to #Patreon and #PayPal for donations is #Liberapay @Liberapay. They are in France, so under GDPR, Open Source, non-profit, they don't sell your data, don't take a cut but rely on donations instead and can do direct debit via SEPA/IBAN, so IMHO a Very Much Good Enough solution :) My yearly donations to #Forgejo and #Makertube are there now. (yes, they also support Stripe and Paypal for payments, but I prefer SEPA/IBAN to keep everything here ;)

Not to be too negative, but since I've seen some platform talk come up in a few places today, and since Patreon's iOS fees are going active, let's talk about Patreon and a universal problem with any "alternative" platforms: regular people and critters won't use them.

We are already terrified--artists are always considered expendable & economic chaos means no one has much wiggle room.
To do this do the hundreds of thousands of artists who rely on #Patreon to live when it's about to cost $50 for a fucking carton of milk is utterly gutting.
