#MLKDay at King’s Atlanta congregation features daughter’s warning about #AntWoke rhetoric and “DEMOCRACY.”
January 20, 2025
“We are living in a time when anti-woke rhetoric has become a weapon to divide us and distract us from the real issues of injustice. To be woke is to be aware of oppression and commitment to justice,” - Rev. Bernice King.

Of all those who rededicated themselves to honoring the work and words of Martin Luther King Jr. today, none was more eloquent than 11-year-old Sebastian Kempton, student at R.J. Frank Academy and ardent Los Angeles Dodgers fan.
At today’s 39th annual celebration of Dr. King’s life in Oxnard, Fran
cisco inspired the audience by recounting the life of Jackie Robinson – extraordinary athlete, 4-letter Bruin, proud soldier, and first to break the MLB color barrier. As Francisco reminded us, Robinson always sought above all to be *respected* for who he was. That’s an example we can all follow.

fantastic intro article on Popper’s Paradox Of Tolerance by Josh Jones for OpenCulture.org:

If you're open to such things as sermons, I thought this was exceptional, and was a glimmer of light for me on a very dark day for so many of us.
This is Rev. Leah Atkinson Bilinski's sermon yesterday, MLKJr-day eve, at Fauntleroy UCC church in West Seattle.
[Yes, it's a pretty lily-white, (upper) middle-class, very liberal congregation. But still. I think Rev Leah delivered a powerful message on the work ahead and the journey. Particularly the end. Might not be what you would expect.]
(My sister is a member of the church and I've been to several services there when I'm in town visiting her)

"If it may be said of the slavery era that the white man took the world and gave the Negro Jesus, then it may be said of the Reconstruction era that the southern aristocracy took the world and gave the poor white man Jim Crow. He gave him Jim Crow. And when his wrinkled stomach cried out for the food that his empty pockets could not provide, he ate Jim Crow, a psychological bird that told him that no matter how bad off he was, at least he was a white man, better than the black man. And he ate Jim Crow. And when his undernourished children cried out for the necessities that his low wages could not provide, he showed them the Jim Crow signs on the buses and in the stores, on the streets and in the public buildings. And his children, too, learned to feed upon Jim Crow, their last outpost of psychological oblivion."

“We must recognize that we can’t solve our problem now until there is a radical redistribution of economic and political power.”
MLK Jr. believed that racism exists to perpetuate poverty and continue feeding the beast of perpetual capitalistic growth with militarization of everyday life.
THERE IS NO IDENTITY POLITICS TO IGNORE IN THIS EQUATION, all oppressions are violence.
so are you ready to be radicalized on #MLKDay
Martin Luther King Jr. and the Socialist Within https://www.hamptonthink.org/read/martin-luther-king-jr-and-the-socialist-within
there is no question in my mind that MLK Jr was assassinated by the fascists within and outside of the USA government for his second phase of the Civil Rights Movement.
the second phase was:
1. opose the war in Vietnam
2. create public and private-led incentives to end poverty in America based on the principles of non-violence
3. make new non-violent economic models possible worldwide
and that meant spending a few billions then to make it happen…
I was hoping that this episode would resurface again. Shout out to News Beat and my man Manny Faces for an episode that will always be necessary to revisit at least once a year.

For MLK Day, I took action by writing my senators to oppose the confirmation of RFK Jr.
“America’s Chief Moral Dilemma”, is called ”The 3 evils speech” when gutted of his re-interpretation of REPARATIONS:

THIS IS THE SPEECH, MLK uses to criticize liberals who edit out his call for a RADICAL REDISTRIBUTION OF ECONOMIC & POLITICAL POWER for not just the Negro but all races.
this was his ultimate goal: to end racism, Americans need to end poverty. to do that, Americans need to end the infinite growth, money making machine of militarism.

An important reminder today:
“Actually, time itself is neutral; it can be used either destructively or constructively. More and more I feel that the people of ill will have used time much more effectively than have the people of good will. We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the hateful words and actions of the bad people but for the appalling silence of the good people. Human progress never rolls in on wheels of inevitability; it comes through the tireless efforts of men willing to be coworkers with God, and without this hard work, time itself becomes an ally of the forces of social stagnation. We must use time creatively, in the knowledge that the time is always ripe to do right. Now is the time to make real the promise of democracy and transform our pending national elegy into a creative psalm of brotherhood. Now is the time to lift our national policy from the quicksand of racial injustice to the solid rock of human dignity.”
