Making it possible for women who are trapped in relationships with abusive men to access information about previous charges or convictions against him for similar offences, along with support to help them leave the relationship safely when they wish to do so, seems like such an obvious thing to do.
That we don’t do this as a matter of course is another example of the ways our legal system acts to protect perpetrators of violence at the expense of the women & kids they target. #DomesticViolence

A Political Power Grab Redirected Funds for North Carolina’s Sexual Abuse Survivors. Women in Crisis Paid the Price.

The move, which led to disruptions in services for sexual assault and domestic violence survivors, provides a glimpse of the consequences when a branch of government assumes unprecedented control.

Men who don't want to pay child support kill women who won't or can't have abortions. In Red states, those murders are now escalating steeply - but the cheeto administration doesn't want you to know that, or be able to quantify by exactly how much.
Because to these whackos, a woman's right to life stops the second she gets pregnant.

12:00 AM, Midnight (actually, 11:50), and I can hear my neighbor yelling at someone, and it sounded like someone threw something (sounded like a bottle), and occasionally, you hear running around, then silence, and then more yelling.
But every time I make it to the window to confirm where it is coming from, it stops. I suspect it is coming from the same place it always comes from (the young lady who lives on the corner, so across from me, but the next house to the right).
Currently, have the outside lights on (front and side). I'm not even trying to hide the fact, that we will call the cops if things get crazy.
Every so often, which seems to be every season (about 3–5 months), she breaks up with another person in a dramatic fashion. In the past, it was the result of partner 1 learning about partner 2. Or it turns out someone she is with is a loser, with an anger issue.
At the moment, we're not exactly sure what is going on. I would like to go to bed (I was about to do so), but I'm not going to be able to sleep with the idea of someone running around, possibly fighting outside my house (wish there was some more distance between their driveway and ours).

domestic violence
Mothers often under-report their sons' violence towards them.... but for 170 women in the last fifteen years that reticence proved fatal.
Nearly one in ten of all women killed by a man were killed by their sons... in a forms of domestic violence that has been largely hidden or under-reported.
As so often, for women, its not 'stranger danger' they need to be concerned about, its the threats of violence in their own home!

While some #FederalAgencies have resisted efforts by #ElonMusk’s team to access confidential records, #HUD has opened the door. The potential #harm to #privacy could be significant.

DOGE can now access a HUD system that includes addresses domestic violence survivors have relocated to for safety, medical records in disability cases and credit reports in lending discrimination cases.
Few of the records are redacted or anonymized.
Amid Increasing Domestic Violence, Illinois Struggles to Review Fatalities
—
Four years after the state called for a network of domestic violence review panels, only seven counties have joined committees. Glaringly absent from the program: Cook County, home to Chicago and about 40% of the state’s population.

Helping Survivors & Their Pets Find Safety Together
https://pralinesbackyardfoundation.org/
At Praline’s Backyard Foundation, we believe that no survivor should have to choose between their safety and their pet’s well-being. More than 65% of domestic violence survivors delay leaving abusive situations due to lack of safe options for their pets. That’s why we’re here—to provide a safe refuge for pets, so survivors can escape to safety without hesitation.
You can learn more about Sage Haven Society at their website: https://sagehavensociety.org
They have been helping women fleeing domestic violence for decades and now help all fleeing gender based violence. It runs two shelters and multiple other services in #portAlberni.
If you would like to help people closer to your own home, check out Coldest Night of the Year and search for a town near you (across Canada and the USA). There are many wonderful organizations using this fundraising drive as their main source of donations.
One fact about #Mastodon. You all are so generous!
Every year I raise money for my local shelter for people fleeing gender based violence.
In 2022 and 2023 you helped raise $1000. Twitter folks never donated like this!
Many of you have already helped! Thank you
I am only $125 away from my $1500 goal!
Please help me reach my goal before the deadline on the 22nd!: https://walk.w-ith.me/chris
If you can’t donate, please boost this post.
The bill’s introduction follows WPLN and ProPublica reporting that found the state’s lax gun laws and enforcement allow firearms to remain in the hands of abusers, some of whom have gone on to shoot and harm or kill their victims.
mention of DV (domestic violence), looking for help in the UK
Hi friends, does anyone know of resources / support channels for trans victims of domestic violence in the UK? Ideally one that's equipped to support a trans woman with children. Any links or recommendations would be greatly appreciated, and please boost for visibility!
