Johanna Wagstaffe, Meteorologist and Seismologist for the CBC, is truly a woman after my own heart because this is exactly the dorky kind of back-of-the-napkin exercise I stay up into the wee hours of the morning figuring out. And she found a study were scientists actually did the calculations for real and turns out, it would make a real measurable impact.

We need to do this maybe not on every roof, but certainly on every roof that makes sense in every town, city and village in the world.

When he is sworn in, Mark Carney will be the strongest Prime Minister on Climate Policy and transitioning the economy away from Fossil Fuels that Canada has ever had.

His credentials on making climate policy are nearly as strong as his economic experience.

"You have said that the goal of net zero is the greatest commercial opportunity of our time. Why?”

"Climate change is an existential threat. We all recognize that, and there’s increasing urgency around it. But the converse is, if you are making investments, coming up with new technologies, changing the way you do business, all in service of reducing and eliminating that threat, you are creating value. And what we have seen increasingly, spurred initially by the Sustainable Development Goals, accelerated by Paris, and then by social movements and governments, is societies putting tremendous value on achieving net zero. Animal Agriculture, the Leading Cause of Climate Change

A new study shows that outdated carbon accounting methods have hidden the true impact of deforestation and methane emissions.

Gerard Wedderburn-Bisshop, lead scientist at the World Preservation Foundation and study author, explains:
“A decision in the late 1980’s to treat carbon emissions differently, depending on their source, has seriously skewed climate science and policy.”

Key findings:
Cutting down forests has caused more CO2 emissions than fossil fuels since 1750.
Methane from animal agriculture is a major driver of global warming, but has been downplayed.
Fixing the way we measure emissions will help create better climate policies.

I wonder if anyone has done a calculation/study of how much fuel Ukraine (and Russia) have saved in their war effort by shifting so much of their military activity and lethal capability over to small and large drones?

The long-range drones (like Shahed) are engine powered, but the small, short range (5-20km) FPV and other drones are all battery powered.

It is disturbing to consider a “fuel per kill” metric, but I am sure militaries do it all the time. Traditional air power is incredibly thirsty for fuel. Using an SU-25 jet to destroy two or three tanks, versus a tiny FPV drone is a huge cost and risk saving.

Like it or not, war is probably not going away even if we do manage to #EndFossilFuels so transitioning military power to electric power is crucial to the overall goal.
