Green Wheat Field (1889) by Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890).
Van Gogh produced this painting during his stay in Saint-Paul de Mausole sanatorium near Saint-Rémy in June 1889. Unlike the artist’s other late paintings, this one gives a balanced and peaceful impression. Nonetheless, van Gogh’s impasto and relief style have remained.

Wheatfield with Partridge (1887) by Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890). Van Gogh painted this rural wheat field while living in the crowded city of Paris. Before his move to the French capital, his main theme had been country life. For him, this summery painting was a brief return to that theme.

The Grand Canal, Venice, Looking South toward the Rialto Bridge (1730s) by Canaletto. This painting depicts Venice's business and commercial center. The distant building with an arcade at ground level and many chimneys is the Fondaco dei Tedeschi, which served as the warehouse of German merchants. Just to the right is the foot of the Rialto Bridge, and further to the right is the Palazzo dei Camerlenghi.

Ophelia among the Flowers (1900s) by French Symbolist artist Odilon Redon (1840-1916). He creates a deliberately ambiguous and dream-like response to Shakespeare’s drama, rather than a literal illustration of it. He makes full use of the rich colors of pastel to create a glowing and almost abstract design that evokes the effect of music.

Vase of Flowers in a Window (1618) by Ambrosius Bosschaert (1573-1621). This spectacular flower still life is one of the masterpieces in his oeuvre. Tulips, roses, columbine, iris or carnations – all flowers are very faithfully rendered, each with its own specific features. The lighting is even and all the flowers are very visibly and frontally presented, the only exception being the fritillary which is partially concealed among the stems.

Amo Te Ama Me (1881) by Lawrence Alma-Tadema (1836-1912).
He has just asked her to marry him; she contemplates her answer, gazing shyly at the bouquet of roses. Alma-Tadema took the title (‘I love you, love me too’) from a novel by his friend Carel Vosmaer. In this sweet story this text is engraved in a Roman ring.
