This #FourthofJuly weekend, stop using #nationalism and #patriotism as synonyms. 
Patriotism encompasses devotion to the country as a whole – including all the people who live within it. Nationalism refers to devotion to only one group or people over others.

Happy 4th of July I'm taking today off from posting Animals of the Apple, but it will be back next week. Today I was reminded that Benjamin Franklin hated the baked eagle being chosen as our national bird and satirically recommended the turkey instead. Well I think it should be the Ruby Throated Hummingbird! They're always zipping about and are usually on the brink of starvation but they get the job done with panache.
