Last boost, Mastodon for Harris meta, (tangential) politics
Not gonna lie, y'all reacting to people criticizing #MastodonforHarris by shitting on people in need is a bigger turnoff to this whole network than the people 'defacing' the campaign.
Is it unpleasant to look at suffering? Uncomfortable? Inconvenient? Yes.
Newsflash: it's 100x more uncomfortable and unpleasant for the people in situations that necessitate mutual aid. It's debasing, it's humiliating, it's desperate. They're desperately trying to attract attention to their vulnerable situation because if they do not do so they will suffer at best, and literally die at worst. It's not a trivial thing to put your life out there in full view because you need the help of strangers, especially not in a society that morally condemns being in poverty.

Casting a wide allegation that they're just scamming or dismissing their suffering as "trauma porn" or engaging in completely unrelated bigotry to dismiss them is just cruel. Do you see homeless people like th— actually scratch that, spare me your opinions on the unhoused.
I unfortunately expect some of this behavior from liberals, but from people who see themselves as socialists? Really? All this for a liberal (progressive, yes, but still liberal) Democrat? Really??
Even in the best timeline, Kamala Harris and her administration would not be enough to undo the poverty and desolation we see today; the US alone has a debt of suffering inflicted that would take decades, perhaps centuries to repay. And we're not in the best timeline.
Let's be frank: even under liberal admins, we will not see the care and aid that is needed right now to help the people next to us, from them. No one's coming besides us.

Harris has received a vote of confidence from virtually every Democratic governor, high ranking DNC member, politically active liberal, Biden bro, and most importantly, Democratic donor. Her campaign has raised over 200 million dollars - that's 2 and 8 zeroes - in the past week alone. And that's not including Biden's former campaign funds or future donors either. She will be fine. The people you scoff at in the tags won't.
If you are not in any economic class higher than the 5% (maybe not even that) your money would go further to help people by giving to the ones next to you.
If you want to fight to make sure Harris wins, you can give your time, your advocacy, your connections to encourage people to vote for her. You can help people get to voting places, you can emphasize the danger that P2025/A47 poses, you can encourage people to trust in someone who isn't decomposing in real time.
Building up your community, however, is the strongest option.

This last post had the last two statements reversed, but I wanted to leave off on a positive note.
Speaking of desperate, if this really was kick-started to get her to create an account here.…you reek of desperation, and are not helping our reputation here. How embarrassing.
Outside of a handful of corporations, the fediverse network is built on the work of helping each other - volunteers, community members, free software development, collaboration. We've collectively built a culture where we can help make something strongly opinionated - something different. I would argue that extends to helping each other, as individuals in need.
Many groups came here seeking respite from worse social networks - artists, BIPOC, queer people, feminists, (literal) refugees - groups that often have to help each other survive.
We should strive to be worth migrating to, for them, and for all.
Remember that going forward.
