You know, I really don't understand the appeal for #SecondLife these days?
What am I missing? For me it runs like crap, everything on it looks old as hell, and so much of it requires monetary transactions. I also feel like I see a lot of furries using it to just do yiff clubs or whatever too.
At least with VRChat it runs moderately well (especially so outside of VR) and has lots of different activities that you can do inside of it thanks to Udon. Plus actually being in VR feels way more personal and connective I guess.
@Neybulot I for one am put off by the stupid reputation system VRC has that forces you to have to wait and/or build up connections before you can start uploading your own custom avatars.
They are also extremely banhappy of users with third party clients. You're only allowed to use the first party client with the features THEY want you to have. You don't get anything else.
@Neybulot And so far I have not seen any indication or evidence of the kinds of features I want to have as part of my experience. Interaction and features I can get to an extremely immersive degree in SecondLife and that NeosVR also supports out of the box.
@dragonarchitect I considered NeosVR and found the NeosVR community is extremely elitist and not inclusive, that one is definitely not for me. I've heard that from many others as well.
@Neybulot@pawb.fun @dragonarchitect@rubber.social I personally find neosvr just way too complicated. I shouldn't need a bachelor to navigate all the menus. I'm also not fond of the idea of only doing all avatar creation within the game itself. I've ready made stuff already in other projects like materials. I don't really want to begin from scratch with everything.
@dragonarchitect This is fair on the first party thing, but there's also been people developing third party applications specifically to crash those on first party so I can kind of understand that too.
It's a shame there's no happy middle between Neos and VRC. Maybe this is why people still pursue Second Life.
@Neybulot People develop malicious third party clients for second life as well. It's not unique to VRC.
@Neybulot Hell, in Second Life people can easily develop malicious scripts to crash or hang whole servers.
@dragonarchitect You're not exactly making a good point for third-party clients to be a thing.
If anything, VRChat just needs to be more extendable so you can just add more to the first-party client itself. Hopefully someone can get that through to their skulls.
@Neybulot I can guarantee you that's not going to happen considering how much uproar and protest it took for them to start giving a fuck about accessibility on their platform after they banned modded & 3rd p clients.
It's the same level of corporate "WE know what the users want" attitude that Discord has and I'm honestly not here for it.
I'll change my tune when VRC does. I get experiences with Second Life that I can't with VRC and that's my line in the sand.
@Neybulot My experience with SL is very busy. Aside from solo time I spend as an in-world photographer, in reconstructing a house and with the weekly sales shopping, I’m constantly attending dance parties or just hanging with friends. I do run with an SL gay community so maybe we are just more active than others. All I can recommend is to find your niche, find your posse, find your purpose.
