Scott Jenson<p>Dear <a href="https://social.coop/tags/OpenSource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSource</span></a> folks, I'd like to offer <a href="https://social.coop/tags/UX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UX</span></a> help to your teams. I've tried "making a small PR" on projects and it turns out that's TERRIBLE advice for a UX designer. The PR is usually misunderstood or ignored. I don't fault the teams for this! It's just the wrong tool for the job.</p><p>So I'm trying something different. I'm offering free consulting time to any project that wants it. Sign up here: <a href="https://cal.com/scottjenson/exchange" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">cal.com/scottjenson/exchange</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p>
Not a certified biri-biri technician<p>I want to make a toast for the humble light switch.</p><p>A light switch has everything that makes good UX:</p><ul><li>Haptic state indication (well, there are standards/suggestions for which position should mean "on" and which should mean "off", but nobody actually cares about that).</li><li>You can check the state without triggering it.</li><li>You get haptic feedback when you trigger it. Most of the time also audible feedback.</li><li>Needs no software updates.</li><li>Different themes but mostly one design (actually two designs, switch and button).</li></ul><p>There have been attempts at weird redesigns, including touchscreens. Thankfully uncommon.</p><p><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/UX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UX</span></a></p>
Scott Jenson<p><a href="https://social.coop/tags/UX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UX</span></a> designers. I get asked all the time for portfolio reviews. The problem is that I just say the same things over and over: respect the recruiter's time, get the point, focus on your impact. I asked a week ago for some suggested posts and got some great links. Scott Jenson<p>I've been tinkering with a "GIST Checklist" for a few months as a means of making smaller, more day to day product changes. It's not complicated: just a checklist of all the things experienced <a href="https://social.coop/tags/UX" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>UX</span></a> designers already do. The point is to be more transparent and collaborative with the broader product team so they understand the "gist" of the problem at hand.</p><p><a href="https://jenson.org/smallplanet/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">jenson.org/smallplanet/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a><br><a href="https://social.coop/tags/PM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PM</span></a> <a href="https://social.coop/tags/productmanagement" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>productmanagement</span></a></p>

Sure, but it's so much better than, let's say, Windows or Mac, it's just crazy.</p><p>A simple example I used just now - block select in Konsole.
