Abnormal Human Being<p>So, I am stuck trying to apply the current <a href="https://toots.abnormalbeings.space/tags/Mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mastodon</span></a> update. Note that there may be many good reasons why, chief among them, that I am self-taught and very much in the "trying stuff out half-blindly while learning"-stage. Thankfully, nothing broke irreversably just yet.</p><p>If anyone here feels like helping a noob out, or just loves a conundrum, details can be found here:</p><p><a href="https://lemmy.abnormalbeings.space/post/805157" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">lemmy.abnormalbeings.space/pos</span><span class="invisible">t/805157</span></a></p><p><a href="https://toots.abnormalbeings.space/tags/sysadmin" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sysadmin</span></a> <a href="https://toots.abnormalbeings.space/tags/techsupport" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>techsupport</span></a> <a href="https://toots.abnormalbeings.space/tags/update" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>update</span></a> <a href="https://toots.abnormalbeings.space/tags/help" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>help</span></a> <a href="https://toots.abnormalbeings.space/tags/fediverse" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>fediverse</span></a> <a href="https://toots.abnormalbeings.space/tags/Selfhosting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Selfhosting</span></a></p>
bluestarultor<p>"Magic Help Line, my name is Lenore. How can I assist?" I addressed the mirror.</p><p>A turquoise cube materialized. Krutonium://<p>I've asked before, but does anyone know how to configure GDM/Gnome to ignore my monitors searching for Inputs? The OSD setting for the displays doesn't work (it has a setting that does nothing) and when all 3 of them start searching for inputs when Windows/Linux tries to turn off the displays, they end up sending some signal that Gnome/GDM interprets as input relevant to unsleeping the displays. So the displays can never turn off on their own, without my own manual intervention.</p><p>On their own, <em>at best</em> they end up on a black screen but on; With GDM/Gnome being unaware that the monitors are getting a signal as far as I can tell. (Some sort of race condition here maybe?)</p><p>Plugged in using DisplayPort to an EVGA RTX 3070 using the latest official nVidia Driver.</p><p><a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/Gnome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gnome</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/GDM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GDM</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/Samsung" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Samsung</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/Monitors" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Monitors</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/Help" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Help</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/AskFedi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AskFedi</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/TechSupport" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TechSupport</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/NixOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NixOS</span></a> <a href="https://social.treehouse.systems/tags/nVidia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nVidia</span></a></p>
Shadowcloud🐲 🔞🐾:veripawed4: ΘΔ<p>Maybe someone here can help, because I'm slowly running out of solutions to solve my server problem. </p><p>The server (running Linux Mint, Ryzen 1800X, GTX 970, 32GB Kingston Fury Beast 3200 (at most, running at 2400 now)) crashes randomly, mostly at idle only with some background applications running (Jellyfin (without encodes), JDownloader,...) sometimes after hours sometimes after days or even weeks without any issues in between.</p><p>At first, I thought it was the high-clocked RAM since I recall 1st Gen Ryzen having issues with that, and that was the only part that I upgraded before the issues started, so I clocked it down to 3000, 2666 and now 2400 and ran RAM tests. The tests brought up no problems. (I had one run on 3200 that failed after 45 minutes, but the error never happened again, not even after 24 hours of continuous testing on none of the frequencies.)</p><p>ChatGPT is a bit helpful, so I sent my logs to it, but it doesn't change anything about the problem. It told me to run RAM tests, clock down, check for overheating, and all that stuff. The only thing it found is that I sometimes have MCEs (Machine Check Events) on different CPUs and Banks, but that doesn't give an immediate hint to what's wrong exactly. I also had one single machine crash, where it didn't restart and I had to force reboot it.</p><p>So if anyone can help me with what I could still try, I would be really grateful!</p><p><a href="https://macrofurs.social/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://macrofurs.social/tags/Mint" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mint</span></a> <a href="https://macrofurs.social/tags/PC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PC</span></a> <a href="https://macrofurs.social/tags/problems" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>problems</span></a> <a href="https://macrofurs.social/tags/RAM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RAM</span></a> <a href="https://macrofurs.social/tags/crash" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>crash</span></a> <a href="https://macrofurs.social/tags/restart" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>restart</span></a> <a href="https://macrofurs.social/tags/techsupport" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>techsupport</span></a></p>

Arios, Cosmic Phoenix 🌌🐦‍🔥🔜FWA<p>So somehow variable refresh rate/FreeSync is no longer working for me for borderless games? It worked perfectly until a few days ago and now it just refuses to comply. I can see from my monitor overlay that it works fine for fullscreen games, but as soon as I switch to bordlerless the refresh rate stays at a fixed 144 and the games become choppy during frame drops. </p><p>This is on Windows 11 with a FreeSync Monitor, Nvidia 4070ti Super and the most recent driver.
