1001 Other AlbumsAs randomly chosen by survey on Mastodon, our next spotlight is on number 237 on <a href="https://1001otheralbums.com/the-list/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">The List</a>, submitted by platenworm. (The survey choices given were “You”, “Could Have”, “It”, and “All”; as the winning selection, “All”, was the 4th choice, the survey result was translated as picking the 4th album in The List with “all” in the title.)Do you ever wake up and wish it was the 90s/early 2000s again so you could be surrounded by excellent screamo/post-hardcore music? Sad that there was never another Saetia album, or never more than a handful of EPs from Neil Perry, or that hopesfall went the way they did? Do you also have no idea what the term “skramz” means because you just don’t get kids these days? Well, get back in the pit and take a listen to this most excellent album from Japanese screamo band Envy. This is Envy’s second of seven studio albums, with their newest released in <a href="https://envy.bandcamp.com/album/the-fallen-crimson" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">2020</a>; they also have around the same number of EPs (the newest released in <a href="https://envy.bandcamp.com/album/seimei" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">2022</a>), and ditto for splits (including <a href="https://envy.bandcamp.com/album/split-thursday-envy" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">one with Thursday</a>). This album passed me by back in the day, but it seems to have developed a reputation as it’s been reissued a couple times since. (If you’re interested in a vinyl copy, btw, take a look at their <a href="https://envy.bandcamp.com/album/all-the-footprints-youve-ever-left-and-the-fear-expecting-ahead" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Bandcamp</a> before Discogs, as they still have a handful left at the time of writing, and some of the copies up on Discogs are rather pricey.)The band is still alive and kicking – and still putting out absolute quality screamo/post-hardcore that has a foot firmly in post-rock these days – so there’s still time to catch up on their discography!
