ninpnin :flag_bisexual:<p>Hi all! I wrote a small Python utility that scrobbles your iPod play history on last.fm. It is made for the newer iPod nanos (6th gen+) that I didn't get to work with the existing projects. You can install it via Pip by running pip install ipodnano-scrobbler.</p><p>The code is available here <a href="https://codeberg.org/nimpnin/ipod-nano-scrobbler" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">codeberg.org/nimpnin/ipod-nano</span><span class="invisible">-scrobbler</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/ipod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ipod</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/ipodnano" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ipodnano</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/lastfm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>lastfm</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/foss" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>foss</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/opensource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>opensource</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/cli" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>cli</span></a></p>
Arda Kılıçdağı<p>The foam covered it in the photos, of course, but normally, the SD card reader sits like this: (there used to be a hard disk there 😮)</p><p><a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/ipod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ipod</span></a> <a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/ipodClassic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ipodClassic</span></a> <a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/apple" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>apple</span></a></p>
Arda Kılıçdağı<p>Just to be safe, I put it in the thicker chassis for now. The connector was a bit tricky, so I had to place some foam underneath. I also got an extra flex cable (the molds are slightly different) and a connector socket—let's see how that works out. Maybe this new flex will also fix the left-right balance issue specific to the flex itself.</p><p><a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/ipod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ipod</span></a> <a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/battery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>battery</span></a></p>
Arda Kılıçdağı<p>Aftermarket iPod batteries cost around 1000₺ if you could even import them (you can’t due to import restrictions). Custom 3000mAh batteries go for over 2000₺ (including taxes), while the battery I’m using costs just 55₺ today on marketplace sites. 🤡</p><p>Since these batteries weren’t selling due to lack of demand, distributors and resellers are offloading them cheaply. And because the connector is a flex + socket type, not many people repurpose them, making them even cheaper.</p><p><a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/ipod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ipod</span></a> <a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/battery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>battery</span></a></p>
Arda Kılıçdağı<p>Thanks to the SD card mod, the device will now consume less power, but I figured I might as well upgrade the battery beyond the standard capacity while I’m at it.</p><p>Normal iPod batteries are around 650-850mAh. Standard LiPo batteries have the same voltage, just connected via a flex cable to the motherboard.</p><p><a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/ipod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ipod</span></a> <a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/battery" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>battery</span></a></p>
Arda Kılıçdağı<p>There’s a balance issue with the headphone jacks on the replacement ipod flex cables (probably due to capacitors on the flex). The left side is about 12% louder (yes, I tested it with stereo test music and IEMs in short bursts). Some reviews mention the same problem.</p><p><a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/ipod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ipod</span></a></p>
Arda Kılıçdağı<p>Can your <a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/ipod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ipod</span></a> play <a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/doom" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>doom</span></a> ? 😆</p>
Trixter of the Moon Council<p>So now I'm torn between using my old Zune HD or the iPod Nano 2nd Gen I picked up last year as my EDC retro player. The Zune is the superior device in every way except actually getting music onto it now that I've completely migrated away from Windows. Is it worth maintaining a Windows 7 VM and manually converting anything I want to transfer from ALAC to MP3? ...Maybe it is?</p><p><a href="https://retro.pizza/tags/Zune" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Zune</span></a> <a href="https://retro.pizza/tags/RetroTech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>RetroTech</span></a> <a href="https://retro.pizza/tags/iPod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>iPod</span></a></p>
Arda Kılıçdağı<p>I haven't updated here for a while about my <a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/ipod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ipod</span></a> modding journey.</p><p>I tried to stick with Stock OS, but it was too much of a hassle to convert all my music to ALAC, so I tried to tinker with <a href="https://micro.arda.pw/tags/rockbox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rockbox</span></a> firmware.</p>
Thib<p>I used to subscribe to Apple Music and then stopped. When I subscribed again, I had lost all my hand-curated playlists that I had carefully crafted over the years.<br> <br>I’m done with this subscription-based life where everything you cherish can and will be taken away from you. So I took the radical decision to own my music, like we used to when iPods were fashionable.<br> <br>And you can too.<br> <br><a href="https://ergaster.org/posts/2025/02/14-you-can-own-music/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">ergaster.org/posts/2025/02/14-</span><span class="invisible">you-can-own-music/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/music" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>music</span></a> <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/subscription" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>subscription</span></a> <a href="https://mamot.fr/tags/ipod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ipod</span></a></p>

Laurent 🫠<p>I've stumbled into this series of 4 videos of this guy I've never heard of. I clicked because of the clickbait title (I'm weak), and I was pretty sure it was going to be yet another stupid social experiment. It left me "what if...?"<br>The guy goes too far imho (spoiler: he ends up getting rid of his MacBook to write his content on a typewriter). But I'm genuinely considering my relationship to music lately and what is shown here speaks to me. ninpnin :flag_bisexual:<p>So I am in the process of reverse engineering my ipod nano’s database so that I can upload my listening data on last.fm. And in doing that, I discovered maybe the most apple thing apple has ever done: ”The timestamp format is based on the Mac Absolute time, which counts the number of seconds since January 1, 2001” <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/ipod" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ipod</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/apple" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>apple</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/programming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>programming</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/programmerhumor" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>programmerhumor</span></a></p>
