Mute Dog Brewing<p>(Past) time to dump this sour stout/old ale blend. It no longer tastes like a mildewy basement but it's still not good tasting. 8 years is too long to mess with stuff hoping it might magically become delicious.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/HomeBrewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HomeBrewing</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/DumpBadBeer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DumpBadBeer</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Beer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Beer</span></a></p>
Fun-sized tiger dad<p>Finally got taxes dropped off today. Looks like we'll owe significantly less this year?</p><p>Missed reporting the removal of the DNEIPA because of unrelated stress. Transfer / keg / bottle / condition all successful...final product is more amber than I'd like, probably because of some older grain...hazy light amber is just ugly. But it smells so damn good, and the balance appears spot-on. I want it in my body but it's still way too green. It'll probably take a while to get rid of acetaldehyde as I'm pushing the yeast's alcohol tolerance.</p><p>I'm otherwise my current usual (stressed / antisocial / miserable but surviving).</p><p>Leaving for San Diego for a scouting trip in less than a week. Hoping to find *something* in the context of that excursion that'll bring me a bit of genuine happiness.</p><p><a href="https://tiggi.es/tags/beer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>beer</span></a> <a href="https://tiggi.es/tags/alcohol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>alcohol</span></a> <a href="https://tiggi.es/tags/homebrewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homebrewing</span></a> <a href="https://tiggi.es/tags/moving" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>moving</span></a></p>
Brudi Bräu<p>Brewday at Brudi Bräu!</p><p>Today I am making an American style Session Amber Ale. I think this is an underrated and underbrewed style. Plus when I had Madtree's Amber Ale in Cincinnati last year, I thought I should drink this stuff more often. And since this style is even harder to find in Germany than the US, I have to make it first.</p><p>A 🧵 </p><p><a href="https://hostux.social/tags/homebrewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homebrewing</span></a> <a href="https://hostux.social/tags/AmberAle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AmberAle</span></a> <a href="https://hostux.social/tags/SessionBeer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SessionBeer</span></a></p>
Brudi Bräu<p>Any Lager brewers present who siphon the beer to a secondary vessel for lagering?</p><p>I noticed that my Schwarzbier had an oxidation note and I assume that's because I racked it to the secondary vessel without purging that with CO2, so I am contemplating on buying some equipment to do that in the future.</p><p>Here's my question: How do you do that? Or do you have some other idea to get around that problem?</p><p><a href="https://hostux.social/tags/homebrewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homebrewing</span></a></p>

Fun-sized tiger dad<p>Starting a stupid little homebrew for my stupid little mental health. Haven't done so in *months*, last attempt was that failed Dubbel I attempted. So of course, I'm doing a DNEIPA for a departing colleague, something I've only attempted once without complete success.</p><p>Fortunately, despite my rust, things went off without a hitch today. Well, maybe save for the fact that my hop processing now has the entire place smelling like pot. Not an aroma tiger cares for in any appreciable concentration. Strata hops, guh...the final product should be worth it, though!</p><p>(I do this before mashing, long story involving a non-traditional setup, quite a bit of math, and slightly hand-wavy timing.)</p><p><a href="https://tiggi.es/tags/homebrewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homebrewing</span></a> <a href="https://tiggi.es/tags/beer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>beer</span></a> <a href="https://tiggi.es/tags/alcohol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>alcohol</span></a></p>

Gustav's homebrewing 🍺<p>Learned something new about homebrewing and carbonation today and also "salvaged" my latest brew, a belgian quadrupel.</p><p>I've been having issues with uneven and low carbonation with my quadrupels that I've been trying to diagnose for a while.</p><p>Despite having the exact same amount of sugar added to the bottle before bottling they have had differing levels of carbonation. Because of this I don't want to increase the amount of sugar to not risk bottle bombs.</p><p>&gt;</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.beer/tags/Homebrewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Homebrewing</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.beer/tags/BelgianBeer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BelgianBeer</span></a></p>
Mute Dog Brewing<p>So about 3 months ago, I put a bunch of honey, honeycomb, and a few dead worker bees from my hive into a hopped yeast starter. It kinda limped along, with some signs of fermentation but nothing ever vigorous, I wasn't holding out much hope for it.</p><p>I had it in the fridge for a few weeks and then decanted and added the dregs to this starter about a week ago, and it just made a krausen for the first time. It smells really fruity, so now I'm getting excited.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/WildYeastFTW" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WildYeastFTW</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/homebrewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>homebrewing</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/beekeeping" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>beekeeping</span></a></p>

I've moved on to a much larger pot now.</p><p>The OG on this is off the scale lol... literally, on my hydrometer.</p><p>No idea what ratio of the contributors to the gravity are fermentables, I guess we shall find out lol.</p><p>"Second runnings" just up to simmer now and turned off to steep until the evening.</p><p>I think I'll aim for a OG of 1.150 - depending on the fermentables, and the formula, this could yield anything up to around 15% ABV, but I'm just hoping for anything over 10% really.</p><p>Hmm... what are appropriate home wine/homebrew hashtags?</p><p><a href="https://toot.ale.gd/tags/Fermentation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Fermentation</span></a> <a href="https://toot.ale.gd/tags/HomeBrewing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HomeBrewing</span></a> <a href="https://toot.ale.gd/tags/WineFermentation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WineFermentation</span></a> <a href="https://toot.ale.gd/tags/FruitWine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FruitWine</span></a></p>
