Alt-text is what's added directly to the image. It's what screen readers used by blind or visually-impaired people read out loud as they can't "read out loud" an image. It's what people see instead of the image if the image doesn't show for them (text-based client, too slow Internet connection, whatever). Alt-text should never convey more information than the image which it is a replacement for. An image description that goes into the post itself is not alt-text. I don't see any rule or part of the "Fediquette" or "Mastodon culture" that speaks against adding that additional information to a reply. Whether it works or not depends on whether your customers accept it or not. I guess that 99% of your aspiring customers in the Fediverse will be on Mastodon, only see your start post and not be bothered to check the replies. So my suggestion is to leave room in the original post for tellling your customers that prices can be found in a reply to that post. But seeing as this will happen to you a lot, it may be worth looking for someplace that offers you more than 500 characters: <ul><li>a Mastodon instance with a raised character limit</li><li>Pleroma (5,000 characters by default, configurable by the admin)</li><li>Akkoma (5,000 characters by default, configurable by the admin)</li><li>Misskey (3,000 characters, hard-coded; just steer clear of misskey.io)</li><li>the various forks of Misskey and forks of their forks like Iceshrimp or Sharkey (thousands of characters by default, configurable by the admin)</li></ul> If you need a five-digit character count, the best you can do requires basically re-learning the Fediverse, mastering a significantly steeper learning curve and very likely abandoning dedicated apps. Alusta toimii hyvin sekä sovelluksena että selainsivuna. Ainakin mementomori.social-palvelimen kautta kirjauduttaessa selainversion tekstinkirjoituskenttä on tosin hassun pieni ja ahtautunut oikeaan laitaan, mutta sinänsä ajaa yhtä kaikki asiansa. Erityistä arvoa annan täällä väljälle merkkirajalle.Friendica on alkuun ollut vähän hankala sovelluksena, mutta selaimella toimii erinomaisesti ainakin käyttämäni katiska.social-palvelimen kautta. Tuntuvasti selkeämpi ja näppärämpi kuin viimeisin tapaamani Facebook-versio, joka oli etenkin selaimella käytettäessä tuhottoman raskaan näköinen kaikkine joutavine sälineen. Bluesky on sekin selkeä ja sielläkin on kätevä rakentaa itselleen mieleisiä syötteitä esimerkiksi kirja- ja juoksusisällöistä ynnä seurattaviensa touhuista. 300 merkin raja kuitenkin ärsyttää tuhottomasti eikä minulla ole sen käyttöön varsinaisesti muuta tolkullista motiivia kuin säilyttää yhteys muutamiin Metan alustoilta tuttuihin, jotka eivät ole vielä asettuneet taloksi näille main. En tiedä, moniko on ylipäänsä tehnyt siirtymäratkaisunsa minun tapaani muista kuin päivänpoliittisista syistä. Tuntuu, että ainakin osa on vielä horroksessa tai jumissa Metan pidemmän aikavälin kehityskulkujen kanssa ja luulee tätä poismuuttoliikehdintää pelkäksi marginaalisen vasemmistolaisporukan ohimeneväksi Musk-paniikiksi.Onhan tämä sinänsä lystiä olla kerrankin edelläkävijä omissa piireissäni, ei siinä mitään. Dieser artikel wurde mit der Blogfunktion bei Iceshrimp geschrieben und kann im ganzen Fediverse gelesen werden. Das Fediverse ist so viel mehr als nur <a href="https://iceshrimp.de/tags/Mastodon" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Mastodon</a>. Ich zu Beispiel nutze noch einen <a href="https://iceshrimp.de/tags/Writefreely" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Writefreely</a> Blog für meine Charaktertagebücher meines DnD Charakters. Schaut euch um was euch interessiert, schaut euch nach einem neuen Zugang zum Fediverse um wenn euch der eine den ihr habt nicht zusagt. Ich feiere die Vielfalt an Zugängen hier im <a href="https://iceshrimp.de/tags/fediverse" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#fediverse</a>, die alle irgendwie zusammenführen. <a href="https://iceshrimp.de/tags/onefediverse" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#onefediverse</a>

Comrade FerretI may have figured out at least one reason why <a href="https://fedi.workersofthe.world/search?tag=Friendica" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Friendica</a> always seems so slow.The memory limit of PHP is low, and has some(?) external variable in conf.d/friendica.ini that overrides the setting in php.ini. Before this, my deferred workers list was up to 999 (even before re-setting up the cron job). According to the table it was in reality over 4,400. Now, after increasing the limit in both ini files (and just straight up wiping the workersqueue table after), it's back down to 68, and the server runs faster than it ever did. I think workers get deferred over and over for external reasons, and eventually these build up past the point that the worker can handle it, because of the memory limit, bogging down the server.

I've tried setting a different size in /usr/local/etc/php/php.ini and in .htaccess, and restarting the container, but it doesn't seem to respond to either of those.

I never could get <a href="https://mastodon.myocci.social/tags/Bookwyrm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Bookwyrm</a> to install. And currently I am trying out <a href="https://mastodon.myocci.social/tags/diaspora" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#diaspora</a>. One thing I think all of them lack is interconnectability. I like <a href="https://mastodon.myocci.social/tags/Mastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Mastodon</a> because you can connect and use relays to help connect to other instances. If there is a way to do it with any of the above, I have never figured it out. If you have any tips or suggestions, I am all ears!

This time double mysterious as it was semi managed for me via <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/Yunohost" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#Yunohost</a>.EDIT: Not a critique of Friendica, just that it's yunohost app is a lot less "set it and forget it" than I was hoping.

𓂀 Cynni 💜The way Friendica works, if my friends interact with others, it also shows me some of those interactions on the time line. Sometimes it's overwhelming, when there are many busy conversations, especially when more friends are participating in the thread. Sometimes, it's just what I need... I see someone liked a cute pet video. I see someone shared a "Three Good Things" Toot that was really lovely. Insew a beautiful snap that someone boosted... And, I'll scroll by and give a like. When I don't know the OP, it's harder for me to do more than liking it. But it's my way to say "hey, I saw this and I enjoyed it". I know I could boost it for others to enjoy as well... But I'm still adapting to the boosting things. Even after 28 months on the Fedi, I still am a bit scared to boost things.. And... I don't know why! I even feel weird when I boost my own stuff on this account...
