quackademic<p>100% yes to this.</p><p>We treat post-doctoral researchers the way we treat sessional tutors: exploit them for their labour & intellectual property, then spit them out. A select few who are willing & able to play the games our research funding models require (designing projects that match the political times , then being named on a maximum number of publications - an inevitable incentive to dodgy research practice & ongoing exploitation of non-tenured staff) achieve tenure & build high profile careers. The rest of us suffer moral injury & burnout.</p><p>Whose interests are served by this?</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/AusPol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AusPol</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/research" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>research</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/AustralianResearchCouncil" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>AustralianResearchCouncil</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/exploitation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>exploitation</span></a></p><p>Changes to ARC grants will make it harder for Australia to combat Trump chaos, researchers warn <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2025/mar/31/changes-to-arc-grants-will-make-it-harder-for-australia-to-combat-trump-chaos-researchers-warn?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">theguardian.com/australia-news</span><span class="invisible">/2025/mar/31/changes-to-arc-grants-will-make-it-harder-for-australia-to-combat-trump-chaos-researchers-warn?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other</span></a></p>
