Maxwell (it/its)
Just last week, I got my first bike with disc brakes.

I'm wondering how often these discs get smashed beyond the point where they can be bent back into shape, and how prepared I should be for that possibility. Assuming that I don't take this bike onto rough trails, I mean.

It looks like the rear disc on my Ride1Up Roadster V3 attaches directly to the motorized hub, so it has wider-spaced bolt holes than the front disc. I'm not sure where I'd source a replacement.

#EBike #Cycling #Bicycle

Marty Cormack
#BikeStreak Day 75:
I awoke early and saw on the radar the snow was about to start. As I had a couple essential items needed, I decided to dress quickly and jump on my #ebike to go to the grocery store before dawn and snow, for 6 miles. With the cloud cover it was still mostly dark. The wind was strong out of the Northeast and the temperature was falling. I guess our chance of more rain than snow is diminishing. It might be an interesting day given the blizzard warning.
#BikeTooter

Maxwell (it/its)
It seems to me like the Venn diagram of #EBike people and #Cycling people doesn't have a lot of overlap, and that's simultaneously a good thing and a bad thing.

The good thing is that it means that e-bikes are getting a lot of people in the saddle who otherwise wouldn't ride a bike. It's an important part of breaking the stranglehold of car-dependency.

The bad thing is that it seems like the people talking about e-bikes don't have a good understanding of the fundamentals of bicycles or cycling. They don't have the experience. Reviews don't seem to be especially helpful, and I worry that these bikes won't get the basic maintenance that they need.

Maxwell (it/its)
I'm thinking of buying an #EBike in the near future—maybe a Ride1Up Portola, maybe a Ride1Up Roadster v3—and I want to put the same Shimano PD-M520 pedals on it that I also have on my 2008 non-electric hybrid. I've been using these pedals for years and their reputation for being simple and bulletproof is well-founded, and... the prices are still quite a bit higher than when I first bough a pair in 2015.

Do you have to be older than 16 to ride en ebike? The 16 year old limit certainly applies to scooters and anything throttle controlled, but pedal assisted ebikes are explicitly not e-rideables. All the sites I have found with info seem to be conflating the two.
So... is there an age requirement for riding a pedal assisted e-bike in Western Australia? #law #cycling
