argv minus one<p>I find it amusing that, in an interplanetary spacecraft from 2032, one of the display screens—the one used to display the commander's video logs—is a <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/Trinitron" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Trinitron</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/CRT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CRT</span></a>.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/StarTrek" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>StarTrek</span></a> is usually more diligent about concealing primitive display technology behind Okudagrams. Did they really think CRTs would still be in common use in 2032? Plasma displays and LCDs were already a thing in 1999 when the episode aired.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/StarTrekVoyager" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>StarTrekVoyager</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/StarTrekVOY" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>StarTrekVOY</span></a></p>
Delta Sierra<p>If my insurance agent could see the shit I get up to in my home, I don't think he'd be quite so nice to me.</p><p>But hey! Project complete! We got the giant 36" Trinitron in the loft, and with only one new scratch and one smashed finger. Everything is still sort of pulled apart but you can get a general idea of the layout. His and hers PCs and TVs on either end, with the CRT and retro consoles in the center (less strain on the controller cables and makes split screen co-op easier).</p><p>Well... Not quite complete. I still have to reattach the tinted panels, rework all the power/AV cables, install all the consoles, disassemble and remove the hoist, put the couch back, and clean.</p><p>But this was the hard part!</p><p><a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/crt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>crt</span></a> <a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/television" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>television</span></a> <a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/retrogaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>retrogaming</span></a> <a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/gaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gaming</span></a> <a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/tv" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>tv</span></a> <a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/project" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>project</span></a> <a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/diy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>diy</span></a> <a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/danger" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>danger</span></a></p>
Delta Sierra<p>Okay, here's my big project.</p><p>My partner and I built a frame, transported it into our loft in sections, and then (mostly) assembled it (I still need to add braces on the legs). We had to remove the existing railing to do this, and we'll finally be finishing the trim around the opening once this is all done.</p><p>The goal? We'll be hanging a chain hoist from the center beam and lifting this 36", 220lb CRT television into the loft! I have a spot cleaned up for it already, and all my older consoles are standing by to be connected. I will also be lowering some of the other screens back down to make some room.</p><p>I have some smaller (32") CRTs up here already, but there's just no viable way to move a TV this large up an eight foot ship's ladder with nothing but muscle power. Luckily, I'm a tool-using maned wolf, and we had some extra lumber, so here we are.</p><p>I will hopefully have more pictures tomorrow!</p><p><a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/CRT" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CRT</span></a> <a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/television" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>television</span></a> <a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/retro" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>retro</span></a> <a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/retrogaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>retrogaming</span></a> <a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/screen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>screen</span></a> <a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/project" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>project</span></a> <a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/diy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>diy</span></a></p>
Delta Sierra<p>For my fellow CRT enthusiasts, I think I've finally found a viable solution for supporting larger screens which ALSO looks kind of classy!</p><p>This was advertised as a coffee table, but the dimensions are perfect for 32"+ screens. 32" deep, 48" wide, 18.5" tall. Rated to hold 284lbs, so of course I immediately tried over-stressing it by sitting on the table holding a couple 45lb dumbbells (I weigh 215lbs right now, so that's 305lbs total). My friend/observer didn't see any flexing of the table top or legs.</p><p>My only complaint is that I don't get a shelf, but this will *easily* hold my Sony KV-36HS510 and a couple game consoles (I still need to figure out a solution for the rest of the consoles though). If you have a pair of 27" or smaller screens you could put those side by side, or have a ton of room for consoles/other source devices with a single 27" or 32" screen.</p><p>The best part is it's currently on clearance through the manufacturer: <a href="https://www.simpli-home.com/products/sawhorse-metal-wood-coffee-table" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">simpli-home.com/products/sawho</span><span class="invisible">rse-metal-wood-coffee-table</span></a></p><p><a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/crt" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>crt</span></a> <a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/television" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>television</span></a> <a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/retrogaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>retrogaming</span></a> <a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/furniture" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>furniture</span></a> <a href="https://furry.engineer/tags/gaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gaming</span></a></p>
