DeeAnn Little<p>Whew. I have repotted this exact Venus Flytrap (it started as a single one a few years ago) several times now into larger pots, but this was the first repotting with division as it needed it. I thought it was still dormant (it wasn't). The rhizomes look very healthy and so does the rest of the plant but it might be set back a bit this year, so not totally sure yet if they will still flower this season. </p><p><a href="https://layer8.space/tags/Florespondence" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Florespondence</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/CarnivorousPlants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CarnivorousPlants</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/SavageGarden" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SavageGarden</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/VenusFlytraps" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VenusFlytraps</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/plants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>plants</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/plants" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>plants</span></a></span></p>

DeeAnn Little<p>It *looks* like the sphagnum moss that was overwintered outside with this Darlingtonia Californica (Cobra Lily) is starting to wake up from dormancy (the Darlingtonia itself will still be a bit until it starts growing again). It was in a portable greenhouse on the balcony all winter (Zone 7b, DE) until a few days ago. I was worried that it would die off over the winter but it looks much better than my indoor-grown moss. </p><p><a href="https://layer8.space/tags/Mosstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mosstodon</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/CarnivorousPlants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CarnivorousPlants</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/florespondence" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>florespondence</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/Gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gardening</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/plants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>plants</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/plants" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>plants</span></a></span></p>
DeeAnn Little<p>Checking in on the bog that I replanted on the 16th with a digital magnifier to see how it is settling in. Seems like it's doing okay (most sundew traps are progressing except for a couple and the Venus Flytrap seeds seem to have set). Some moss has burnt tips like it did in the old container and not sure if it's the lighting, dry conditions or something else yet. </p><p>Post of the actual planting at <a href="https://layer8.space/@chillicampari/114173052110800527" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">layer8.space/@chillicampari/11</span><span class="invisible">4173052110800527</span></a></p><p><a href="https://layer8.space/tags/CarnivorousPlants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CarnivorousPlants</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/Mosstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mosstodon</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/Gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Gardening</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/florespondence" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>florespondence</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/plants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>plants</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/plants" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>plants</span></a></span></p>

DeeAnn Little<p>Whew! I knew this was going to be a tricky replanting and it was but went more smoothly than I'd expected. This mini bog started out in 2023 as a random throwing things together with different Sundew seed stalks, moss and some Butterworts in a Tupperware-type container using coconut coir as the growing medium and I actually didn't expect it to survive. It seemed to (mostly) do okay and it was time to move it to a larger container. </p><p><a href="https://layer8.space/tags/CarnivorousPlants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CarnivorousPlants</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/Mosstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mosstodon</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/Plants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Plants</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/plants" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>plants</span></a></span></p>
DeeAnn Little<p>I'm preparing another batch of growing medium (mix of peat and perlite). If you are new to growing carnivores, you might not know yet that the medium should be soaked and rinsed before planting. If you plant in dry medium and then water it, it may repel the water (see pic 3 where it is floating on top of the water). I'm using one of <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@mfeilner" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>mfeilner</span></a></span> 's fermentation jars and periodically shaking it, breaking up barky chunks and letting it set in a warm room. </p><p><a href="https://layer8.space/tags/CarnivorousPlants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CarnivorousPlants</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/Plants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Plants</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/plants" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>plants</span></a></span></p>
DeeAnn Little<p>Cleaned up and moved the dormant Drosera paradoxa (sundew) into a new pot. It's in an open glass container until the ambient humidity in this room goes up. This one came out of dormancy mid going into late March last year (see link at <a href="https://layer8.space/@chillicampari/112169585969118118" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">layer8.space/@chillicampari/11</span><span class="invisible">2169585969118118</span></a>), but it can vary. As I am doing with a few other plants, I top dressed it with chopped fresh sphagnum moss that I keep in a jar. <br> </p><p><a href="https://layer8.space/tags/CarnivorousPlants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>CarnivorousPlants</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/SavageGarden" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>SavageGarden</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/florespondence" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>florespondence</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/Mosstodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Mosstodon</span></a> <a href="https://layer8.space/tags/Plants" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Plants</span></a> <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://a.gup.pe/u/plants" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>plants</span></a></span></p>
