William Lindsey :toad:<p>Ireland is appropriating its traditional Catholic heritage in a new way that is egalitarian, radically committed to equal rights for women, inclusive of LGBTQ human beings, and deeply critical of the patriarchal past that was absolutely essential to how the Catholic church, with its males-only rule for ordination, functioned in Ireland for a long time, with ugly consequences for Irish people and Irish culture.</p><p><a href="https://toad.social/tags/Ireland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ireland</span></a> <a href="https://toad.social/tags/Brigid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Brigid</span></a> <a href="https://toad.social/tags/patriarchy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>patriarchy</span></a> <a href="https://toad.social/tags/women" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>women</span></a> <a href="https://toad.social/tags/egalitarianism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>egalitarianism</span></a><br>/4</p>

Ron Franke<p>Imbolc, what is it? I've seen references to this out here this morning. So I looked it up.</p><p>"Imbolc is a pagan holiday celebrated from February 1 through sundown February 2. Based on a Celtic tradition, Imbolc was meant to mark the halfway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox in Neolithic Ireland and Scotland. ... Imbolc is just one of several pre-Christian holidays highlighting some aspect of winter and sunlight, and heralding the change of seasons.</p><p>...</p><p>Imbolc celebrations took the form of a festival in honor of the pagan goddess Brigid, who was evoked in fertility blessings and oversaw poetry, crafts and prophecy. Brigid was worshiped by the Filid, a class of poets and historians among the Celts of ancient Ireland and Britain.</p><p>Brigid was considered one of the most powerful Celtic gods ..."</p><p>Interesting.</p><p><a href="https://www.history.com/topics/holidays/imbolc" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">history.com/topics/holidays/im</span><span class="invisible">bolc</span></a></p><p><a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Imbolc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Imbolc</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Pagan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Pagan</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Holiday" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Holiday</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/February" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>February</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Brigid" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Brigid</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Celtic" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Celtic</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Celts" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Celts</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Ireland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Ireland</span></a> <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Britain" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Britain</span></a></p>
