Anthony Sorace<p>Anyway. This is all based on ~10 hours of use as a second browser, for my personal needs, so don't read too much into it. But I was frustrated that most of the discussion I saw about leaving Firefox jumped into Chromium-based things, which feels worse. Hopefully this is useful for folks looking for Firefox alternatives.</p><p><a href="https://pdx.social/tags/Firefox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Firefox</span></a> <a href="https://pdx.social/tags/Waterfox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Waterfox</span></a></p>

Lance<p>I was searching for lightweight Linux web browsers for an old Chromebook running MX Linux Fluxbox. The machine only has 2GB of RAM, so memory is very tight.</p><p>Found a recommendation for Waterfox. I've installed it, and can confirm that the memory footprint is smaller than Firefox. Three open tabs use less memory than two tabs in Firefox! It also feels snappier.</p><p>It's worth a look, especially for low spec computers. <a href="https://mastodon.art/tags/Waterfox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Waterfox</span></a></p>
Dawn Tåke 🌙 :sparkletrans:<p>I find it interesting that after Mozilla's [latest] snafu, a lot of other services are making their own comments. Largely how they're not Mozilla. LibreWolf created its first social media account here on the Fediverse. SimpleX clarified what they can or can't take, (both on principle and intentional technical limitations,) etc.</p><p>Waterfox's comments have been the most interesting so far. They said that while they don't agree with Mozilla's changes, the fact that they have a governing body that you can complain to and not just a git page puts them a step above a lot of Firefox forks. Incidentally, Waterfox also has a governing body.</p><p>I don't really have a comment on this beyond I've been using a Firefox fork for a while.</p><p><a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/mozilla" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>mozilla</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/firefox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>firefox</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/WaterFox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WaterFox</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/LibreWolf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LibreWolf</span></a> <a href="https://tech.lgbt/tags/TourmaLinux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>TourmaLinux</span></a></p>

Anupam 《ミ》λ≡<p>I moved off <a href="https://social.id1.in/tags/firefox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>firefox</span></a> and onto <a href="https://social.id1.in/tags/waterfox" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>waterfox</span></a>. Some things I discovered that I really like -<br><br>1. All <a href="https://social.id1.in/tags/telemetry" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>telemetry</span></a> is turned off, and the options are disabled, so there is no way to turn them on.<br><br>2. It comes with native side tabs support, so there is no need to install Sidebery or the like. When you open side tabs, the top tab row disappears automatically (which was not possible to do in Firefox). There are some nice options like an option to pin the current tab automatically.<br><br>3. Drag drop files works again! My firefox install had this annoying bug where I couldn't drag files from the desktop to a web page. This works flawlessly in waterfox.<br><br>4. Installation was a breeze with flatpak. I copied over my profile from firefox, and everything worked out of the box, including <a href="https://social.id1.in/tags/drm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>DRM</span></a> (e.g. netflix).<br><br>I also tried <a href="https://social.id1.in/tags/librewolf" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>librewolf</span></a> and DRM did not work out of the box with it. I overall much prefer waterfox.<br></p>
