Quite something to have swum against the tide so spectacularly !</p>

This has shaped its demography and politics.<br>Although a <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/parliamentaryconstituency" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>parliamentaryconstituency</span></a> with very similar boundaries to the current <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/putney" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>putney</span></a> was created in 1918 no <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/labour" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>labour</span></a> candidate stood there until 1924. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/labour" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>labour</span></a> did not win the seat until 1964 .</p>

Over that period I have been a trade union member also - and have had various roles in both at different times - sometimes involving formal office. <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/putney" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>putney</span></a> has a <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/history" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>history</span></a> . It is where <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/thomascromwell" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>thomascromwell</span></a> came from and the home of the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/putneydebates" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>putneydebates</span></a> about <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/parliamentaryrepresentation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>parliamentaryrepresentation</span></a> .</p>
