Andy Warburton ❌❌❌<p>They said this wouldn’t work but it bloody well does! Just three more digits to solder up (161 individual LEDs!) and I’ll have a clock! </p><p>I’m so glad it does work though because I ordered two hundred of these pcbs 😂</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/maker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>maker</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/electronics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>electronics</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/pcb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>pcb</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/jlcpcb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>jlcpcb</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/wled" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wled</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/rgb" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>rgb</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/neopixels" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>neopixels</span></a></p>
adafruit<p>Instead, you can use the open source and free xLights software (<a href="https://xlights.org/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">xlights.org/</span><span class="invisible"></span></a>) which is completely amazing and has a learning curve like a cliff for the first 30 minutes. BUT once you get your controller and layout, it's unbelievably powerful and actually kinda easy to get going with simple display work. It also has a very satisfying preview mode.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.cloud/tags/wled" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wled</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.cloud/tags/electronics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>electronics</span></a></p>

Michael Harley<p>I think I’ll skip <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/WLED" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WLED</span></a> for my future light strip projects. It feels a bit too DIY for my needs, and I don’t really need the individually addressable LED feature—just some accent lighting.</p><p>I’m leaning toward trying Hue instead. They’re more expensive, but I just want something that works reliably and looks good. <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/HomeAssistant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HomeAssistant</span></a></p>

Mango<p>I installed an RGB ws2811 LED strip in our bedroom, cause the previous white LED strip sucked. I wanted to make it work with <a href="https://social.mango.vg/tags/wled" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>wled</span></a> installed on <a href="https://social.mango.vg/tags/esp32" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>esp32</span></a> But turns out it's quite hard to make a 12v LED strip work with a 3.3v controller.<br>To make it work, I cut off a single ws2811 and powered it from 5v. So the signal (3.3v level) from esp32 first went to the 5v LED and then its output (5v) went to the 12v strip.<br>WLED is awesome.</p>
Jules :notnet:<p>set up <a href="https://coolmathgam.es/tags/WLED" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WLED</span></a> today, awesome project. I didn't want to deal with powering them chained, so I'm running two separate WS2812B strips with separate ESP8266 controllers, and then a ESP32 to drive them wirelessly as a single strip. connected it to Home Assistant to sync with the rest of my Philips Hue lights as well if I want to</p>

Brad Romance<p>Not having a great week, tech-wise! Tried to update <a href="https://toot.chez.gay/tags/WLED" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>WLED</span></a> on all my smart LED strips, the kitchen one failed, so I downloaded the software and tried to update manually… and it stopped working altogether. The NODE-MCU controller isn’t working at all, no power, can’t flash it. Kaput.</p><p>I don’t have a spare, but I have some tiny Atom M5 Lites which should work… but I don’t have a suitable cable to connect it to the LEDs. I’ll have to bodge one later.</p><p>AND the WiFi smart plug that controls the flourescent tube over the kitchen sink has died! So currently we have no fully working lights in the kitchen. 🙈 I’ve removed the smart plug for now, but I have to control it manually like some kind of caveman. <a href="https://toot.chez.gay/tags/HeyBuuuuuuuddy" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>HeyBuuuuuuuddy</span></a></p>

brettThe physical health tracker project was at a point where I had all the technical problems solved and just had to figure out the aesthetic stuff, but my back has been so bad this week that I needed to get some version of it working ASAP. I ended up laser cutting a silhouette of a Borofsky work as a reference to the movie Sneakers, and making it transition from blue to red as I go longer without doing my exercises.<br><br><a class="hashtag" href="https://brettiverse.com/tag/projects" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#projects</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://brettiverse.com/tag/wled" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#wled</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://brettiverse.com/tag/esp8266" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#esp8266</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://brettiverse.com/tag/nodered" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#nodered</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://brettiverse.com/tag/homeautomation" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#homeautomation</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://brettiverse.com/tag/maker" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#maker</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://brettiverse.com/tag/lasercutting" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#lasercutting</a>
brettPart 2 of my mental health tracker project: software.<br><br>Since the data I want to read and interpret is coming from my home automation (read: Node-RED), that's where most of the logic for the tracker is.<br><br>At the moment it logs sleep length, alarm -&gt; wakeup time, time taken to get in the shower in the mornings, and time taken to get out of the shower in the mornings, all of which I have noticed tend to correlate to how well I'm doing. I also want to include my bedtime and the time I first manage to leave the house.<br><br>By comparing the last week's average of each of these to long term data, it's my hope that I'll be able to display an accurate picture of my mental health as it fluctuates.<br><br><a class="hashtag" href="https://brettiverse.com/tag/maker" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#maker</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://brettiverse.com/tag/projects" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#projects</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://brettiverse.com/tag/wled" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#wled</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://brettiverse.com/tag/esp8266" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#esp8266</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://brettiverse.com/tag/lasercutting" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#lasercutting</a> <a class="hashtag" href="https://brettiverse.com/tag/homeautomation" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#homeautomation</a>
