Tattie<p>Well I've woken up this morning to news of four Green seats, equalling Reform's count, which is heartening.</p><p>Of course much of that is down to FPTP shenanigans. Reform got a terrifying 14.3% of UK denizens' votes, and yes, we should be scared. But on the other hand, what I was saying upthread bore out. Because the Tories <em>lost 19.9%</em> of UK votes.</p><p>And the Greens, to their credit, got 6.8%-- almost half the Reform vote, and a proportionally huge increase of 4.1%!</p><p><em>Let nobody paint this election as the UK electorate lurching to the right</em>, because the facts do not bear that out. Other than the collapse of the SNP vote, the left did well last night.</p><p>Well done again to the Greens for their big vote increase. Well done to the Lib Dems for their big <em>seat</em> increase. Well done to all our new Labour MPs who aren't horrible regressives like Starmer-- there's still a fair few.</p><p>Let's see what the future holds. <br><a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/ukpol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ukpol</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/ukelection2024" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ukelection2024</span></a></p>

Dr Pen<p>Its very much worth saying - and for other nations to watch - that the UK political transition is peaceful and orderly. No trouble or violence, no mass demos on the day of election, no police at most polling stations, just ordinary people going to vote. Humour is often a gentle weapon in the UK, sometimes used to merciless effect. </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ukelection" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ukelection</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ukelection2024" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ukelection2024</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/uk" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>uk</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/politics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>politics</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ukpolitics" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ukpolitics</span></a> </p><p>Img: Rees Mogg, who lost his seat, with another constituency candidate, from the Monster Raving Loony Party</p>

Tattie<p>Andrew Feinstein made a good run of it, and at least made a sizeable dent in Keir Starmer's vote, but alas the asshole is in. <br><a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/ukpol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ukpol</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/ukelection2024" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ukelection2024</span></a></p>
Tattie<p>Currently seat counts according the the Independent: <br>Labour 66, Tories 3, Lib Dems 3, Reform 1 (blagh!)<br>Urban seats always tend to declare first, tho, with a heavy Labour tendency. <br><a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/ukpol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ukpol</span></a> <a href="https://eldritch.cafe/tags/ukelection2024" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ukelection2024</span></a></p>
