He's been releasing singles from an upcoming LP that should be coming later this year, and the singles are great, but most of his older recordings are a bit rough. So thankfully he re-recorded some of his older songs and released this fucking KILLER record with them on it in 2021 -- Hit Box 21.Help, can't stop listening. 😂 I listen to this DAILY, no joke, at least once. Literally. These are some wild psych-pop songs. Whew. And I still hear new things every time I listen. Jake in the desertThis week's <a href="https://c.im/tags/MusicWomenWednesday" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#MusicWomenWednesday</a> is the great new record 'Look Familiar' from last year (another I almost missed) by Australia's indie rock collab THE GREEN CHILD. Raven Mahon's voice is killer through these tracks of psych, electronica and rock. Partway through the first song, the feel almost shifts, the second song has vibes of The Cars, synth lines, cool guitar work. Also a Stereolab or Kraftwerk feel sometimes, too- but this rocks harder than either. This album is rad as fuck. Jake in the desertWhen I find new music, I like to wait a bit before I talk about it here, to marinate on it. When I find stuff I can't stop listening to, I know it's special. This one is. Brisbane's NICE BISCUIT (what is in the WATER in Australia?!?) is fucking magical, and that's why they're this week's <a href="https://c.im/tags/MusicWomenWednesday" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#MusicWomenWednesday</a>.When you're listening to an album that you love, even for the first time, it should have an almost familiar, effortless feel to it that you can't describe. That's how I like to find amazing records. That's the kind of music Nice Biscuit make. Finding them was even more serendipity, as <a href="https://mastodon.design/@irafcummings" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@irafcummings</a> suggested a band (Crows) so I checked out other bands on Crows' label, and I stumbled across em. Nice Biscuit is a band of 3 dudes and 2 gals, they make amazing dreamy jangle psych fuzz pop/garage rock. Notes of Jefferson Airplane, Abba, Stereolab, Lush, Blondie (thanks to <a href="https://metalhead.club/@wendigo" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@wendigo</a> for the help analyzing). The two gals are the singers and the songs are beautiful, badass, weird, and well-written. Genius level stuff. This shit is a must-hear. No bad songs.
