There's a bit of space for new ones but I hate overlapping them so I'm very picky.

#NextCloud installed. It is kinda sad that it took the evilness of the tech giants (... shame on you #Google) for me to take this step, but, at least I got there. Install was "relatively" easy, though I managed to put out a thing to stumble on, I spent some frustrated time trying to figure out what was wrong, but that was me having put an entry in /etc/hosts while doing some other thing that completely messed things up Not NextClouds fault.

The software is quite impressive. The "drive" part seems easier & more intuifive than what Google has. In a way, it makes sense. Google wants to have a "Google Product!", that ties in with their stuff. NextCloud just want to offer something they want you to use. "If you are happy with the free one, maybe have it with commersial support at work", does not work if it is crap.

So, my #selfhosting now is a simple ssh server for quick autosync, gitea (will be replaced with forgejo), and nextcloud.

And HomeAssistant, of course...

Whats next? Pixelfed? Jellyfin?

And another system and container update has broken nextcloud-aio on podman completely.

Container's start script can't resolve DNS, even when explicitly given a --dns=1.1.1.1

No issues with othe containers. Nextcloud-aio tries to configure a lot networking stuff itself...

This is the part of self-hosting that sucks.

The Dutch government is debating sovereign cloud solutions, and universities are already piloting #Nextcloud as an alternative to Big Tech.

Could this be the start of a European Plan B? The shift to #opensource collaboration-friendly platforms is gaining momentum.

I cannot get #Nextcloud CalDAV to work with MacOS. I just get a generic "Unable to verify account name or password"

I'm using an app password, I've tried all the manual settings. I can open the URL in a browser without a problem.

It's such a pain

It's no secret that I am not #NixOS 's *biggest* fan, but where it shines, it *really* shines. Setting up #Nextcloud just now took me all of five minutes including time spent on a search engine looking up how to do it.

Is that enough to make up for all the times my configuration has failed to build with the least helpful error message I have ever received from any Linux tool (a high bar!) and the fact that it all but prevents making quick changes to test things because the Nix store is read only? I'll think on that.
