The Alaska Volcano Observatory says there is a very good chance it will erupt, which hasn't happened since 1992, I think. We live very close to Mt. Spurr. JeffHey there folks. I’m an aurora guide in Fairbanks and am new to this app. I’d like to share some photos from this past winter. What we are looking at here is what’s known as a corona, or a breakup. This shot is looking straight up above me. These intense formations often last for only a minute or two but are absolutely beautiful to see. Huge amounts of energy is being converted to visual light, much like how a neon light works. The different colors you see here are oxygen (green) and nitrogen (purple) as these solar particles crash into our atmosphere.
