Samantha Xavia<p><span>For anyone asking about why I use the Fediverse over Bluesky.<br><br>I use the Fediverse because of a few reasons;<br><br>1. The people and software are more customizable and can be self hosted.<br><br>2. Bluesky was originally the idea of making Twitter more decentralized but turned into it's own project after lots of money from big tech (and is still getting lots of money put into it)<br><br>3. AT Protocol vs ActivityPub Protocol. Personally I don't really care either way but when ActivityPub is built as a standard by the same organization for HTML & CSS then yeah ActivityPub it is.<br><br>4. The usernames, The usernames on Bluesky is cool till you think oh, I have a few people that I want using the same Instance / domain making you have to make new subdomains for the usernames, Just go with the email like layout Fedi software has, it's simple and it just like email.<br><br>5. Instances, The fediverse allows anyone to set up there own server with whatever Fediverse software and still connect with others. Bluesky is one software and most people are on one instance making it another centralized platform that just wants to look decentralized.<br><br>6. Ownership of followers, due to point number 5 if you get banned or want to move away from Bluesky you can't. rukenau<p>I learned about <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/FreeOurFeeds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FreeOurFeeds</span></a> today, and while I agree with much of its sentiment, I still don't understand the need to stand up a foundation with so much funding. Why can't interoperability between the <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/ATProtocol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ATProtocol</span></a> and <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/activitypub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>activitypub</span></a> be accomplished with volunteer efforts or smaller groups?</p>
Ji Fu<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://social.wildeboer.net/@jwildeboer" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">@<span>jwildeboer</span></a></span> at least Bluesky uses the open <a href="https://hostux.social/tags/ATprotocol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ATprotocol</span></a> certainly not as good as <a href="https://hostux.social/tags/ActivityPub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ActivityPub</span></a> or <a href="https://hostux.social/tags/NOSTR" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>NOSTR</span></a> but better than a 100% freedom denying closed garden.</p>
EpicBear<p>This whole <a href="https://genomic.social/tags/FreeOurFeeds" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>FreeOurFeeds</span></a> initiative seems fishy to me. If one wanted to wrest control of social media away from "profit-driven incentives, venture capital pressure, and politically-motivated censorship", then why not invest in <a href="https://genomic.social/tags/ActivityPub" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ActivityPub</span></a>?
