Moss in the sunshine.

A grey cushioned Grimmia moss clump on a stone wall in the sunshine. The moss is a bit dry with pale hairs and has spore capsules growing out of it, they have reddish stems with capsules pointed upwards. Behind the moss is a dark green out of focus hedge on the left hand side, the right hand side is blue sky.

Moss - revisited.
(veeery dry this time)

The trunk of a fallen tree is covering the picture from bottom-left to upper centre-right.
The whole trunk is covered with moss which is reflecting the light of the sun that is shining brightly in the top-left corner of the picture.
Rays of light are being radiated by the sun and shining throughout the picture.
In the bottom-right corner there‘s a lense flare.
Behind the mossy trunk there are more trees in the distance and ivy.
The sky is light blue.

Bronzed Pixie-Cup and Reindeer lichen surrounded by Haircap moss

Bronzed Pixie-cup lichen (Cladonia gracilis ssp. turbinata) with several closed, inside yellowish cups on long green stems (podetia), surrounded by Haircap moss and a white Reindeer lichen.
A few small green leaflets (squamules) grow on the stems, brown apothecia on the edges of the cups.

Above-ground root system of an alder tree in a swamp. The thick roots spread visibly in a radius of three meters from the trunk, and are covered with a thick carpet of moss.

A small patch of some very virile moss.

A notch in a decorative concrete wall holds a little round patch of soft moss, which is covered in a dense crown of light green sporophytes on reddish-brown stalks.

A beautiful moss covered Western red #cedar #tree - still unprotected.
Only a human, with a compromised & unwell soul, would be OK killing an elder tree this magnificent. Some things are just plain wrong.

These ancient old growth trees are essential to fighting accelerated #ClimateChange. #OldGrowth ecosystems in our coastal temperate rainforests supports much biodiverse lifeforms. The naturally moist environment helps to lower impacts of wildfires & other natural disasters that have increased as our governments continue to fund & enable more ecocidal projects.

For Saint Patrick's day, and #mosstodon Monday, some greenery on the rocks from Beacon Rock, and more greenery on Wind Mountain. I recently read Gathering Moss by Robin Wall Kimmerer, author of Braiding Sweetgrass, which was really interesting. I had no idea that moss reproduced with sperm, one of the first organisms on earth to do so! Also had no idea how dependent on very specific local conditions each moss is.
